Say What? Hyenas!
Many associate the game with the less-macho, the less heterosexual male who might well be inclined to the same gender or even none at all, and vaguely label the game as lack of attitude. Unfortunately, these are the people who more often than not miss out the fun.
To begin with, there’s no limit in this game. The sky’s the limit, if you’d. Every game play is different, every dodge is spontaneous and every kill is an opportunity well taken.
Just recently, Taylor’s Hyenas ( Namely the Hyenas X & Hyenas ) has been a lot of spotlight – Our very own international match against Hong Kong, which we proudly beared the flag of Malaysia and made her proud; and the CDL (College Dodgeball League) which we obtained 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
For this, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the players, all the dodgettes and those people that supported us through our growth. Honestly, I think what sets us apart is not just our wins or losses but the simple faith, the simple mutual trust and friendship that brings and bond us together. I couldn’t be anymore prouder being a captain of this wonderful team, and sometimes this feeling can be so overwhelming I feel unflattered.
Thanks for the Memories, as the fall out boy would so clichely put it.
I can’t express how much I’m so gratitude to have found a bunch of hilarious, spontaneous, annoying and somewhat stubborn team, so thank you and remember we only live by one motto : F*** this shit.
From the moments stoning in the curve, dining at Station Kopitiam time after time waiting for the tournament to start, or the moment of truth when the last ball vs Segi thumped down in the ground, to the countless pictures taken during cheer practices and dodging exercise under the scorching hot sun, to sleepingovers and to the intimidation by the overwhelmingly big HK players’ size to the adrenalin pumping moments, this would go down well the history book of our fragile tangible memory.
So saving for the words of wisdom for our President whose written somewhat a “memorial tribute” longer than those found on the back page of The Star’s obituaries, I present to you videos :

- President's ( Abang Chua ) Remarks -
Month of September is going to end next week and here comes month of October which indicates our future journey that all of us will be facing. Tough or Trouble-free journey ? I have no idea about it. Firstly, as all of us know that the WHITE HYENAS ( Seniors ) are going to leave us soon except Karishan Somu. Hence, we need to recruit more dodgers or people to join our club and team. Thus, that would be my first point.
President's Evaluation
Starting with our seniors team, HYENAS .......
- Venki - You are the one who taught us ( HYENAS X ) how to play dodgeball and always stand by our side supporting us no matter where you are.
- Michael - When everyone ask who is the MVP ? We would appreciatively shout, " MICHAEL CHEW ! "
- Sonul - Frankly, the key of success for HYENAS X partially lies on you because all the while, your the dodger that played very well and we ( HYENAS X) always find alternative strategies to kill you first. Thus, all these had made everyone from HYENAS X unites together as a team.
- Kari - You know what, I just want to say to you that, " KLANG BOY NEVER DIES UNLIKE THE PJ BOYS ( no offence to the PJ people ^^ ) "
- Sean - Mr Ex President, you always willing to give me a helping whenever I need your guidance to expand the club.
- KenLing - You are a very responsible man. You always seek for information about our club no matter how busy you are.
- Gary - Although I don't really know you that much but I can see that you always get up when you fall and you always keep trying till you succeed. Keep it, bro.
- Lee Jane - I want to apologise to you for what I have said to you since the day I know you. Honestly, I have no other intention when I'm talking to you. Anyway, you are the first girl I met that is good in catching. I was shock seeing a girl easily catches so many balls during a game. WOW !
- Alyssa - What's up, SUPERWOMAN ! How's life in New York ? Your the girl inspired MAD people to create a girls team for dodgeball. Feel proud ? Yeah, you should =)
- Erwin - I realized that I always pronounced your name wrongly. Sorry =) I just want to say that, YOU ARE ALWAYS PART OF HYENAS NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE !
- JunHsien - Hey captain, do introduce us except me ( saya sudah bertaubat ) some chicks since you got a few of them. A world class dodger award goes to LEE JUN HSIEN, the SHOTGUN ! -JUNA-
- Jerrard Leong - I would like to pay a token appreciation to you because you are the one pushed me till so far and always help me when I need your help . PS : We are not GAY ! - Jerra -
- Subbiah - To be frank, you are the one who brought us ( HYENAS X ) all together as a team. Still remember the first time you called us up for training ? Because of you, WE ARE UNITED AS A TEAM ! Thank you, SUNBEAR ( Don't angry, playing only =) ) - Subba -
- Frederick - Still remember the first time we argued ? Sigh =( But, it had strengthen our relationship, right ? Now we are BROTHERS man ! - Frederica -
- ZhenMing - This fella sacrifices his precious time instead of studying, he joined us for dodgeball. We appreciate for what you have been helping and playing with us as a team. - Minga -
- HuiXian - You always willing to learn to catch balls no matter how hurt were your fingers. You always attend our practice and be part of our team ! - Xiana -
- Mariam - The girl that attracted lots of dodgers from other team ! WOW , you are improving now. Keep going, girl ! Anyway, Selamat Hari Raya ... - Mariama -
- PuaSze - IsmellPuaz.blogspot.com , that would be my first comment on you. You always fall down during training but I can see that your self-esteem had pushed you till this far and helped you regain your confidence. - Puaaaz -
- Olivia - Popeye's wife ! You are everyone's hardworking secretary and photographer. You always helped us to take photos and upload in Facebook. But, don't ever enter to the boy's toilet to snap our photos because I scared that you will FAINT ! hahahahahahha - Oliva -
So, this saturday ( 26th September 2009 ) , HYENAS X will be partcipating for the HELP event. Jun Hsien will help us to register our names and Alvin, I hope you take this opportunity to find your team which consists of 8 dodgers. It's all up to you to form a strong team. Be initiative and I believe one day your team will succeed.
Live As A Team, Win As A Team !

We Finished It Strong
The last day of campus dodgeball league ended in a big bang. The atmosphere was quite dull from the beginning but it was another story when Hyenas X vs Piranahz kick start with the first match. There were the usual dodgettes performance but somehow this time, it was extra sugar and spice and everything was nice. It was accompanied our very own hyped up Hyenas dance routine after that.
By now, most of the Hyenas X members are ready to give their all in maintaining thier 2nd position in the league. We started off fiercely and was quick to end the game to take the lead. 1-0
The 2nd game saw a different line up from the Piranahz but it was pointless as Hyenas X was not one bit disturbed or affected by the change. Both sides attacked like shooting torpedo missiles and each other but it was Hyenas X again manage to extend their lead to 2-0. The third game kicked off and it was pretty intense. Both sides were pretty cautious at first, but not too soon, balls started flying again and it was Hyenas X who emerged victorious with the final verdict 3-0.
This concludes that , Hyenas X are 2nd and Hyenas are 3rd in the first ever Campus Dodgeball League.
The end of the league also saw a couple of Hyenas members grabbing some awards.
Here is the list of them who have be chosen as MVP ( Most Valuable Player)
MVP's for CDL 2009 E@Curve
Micheal Chew - Most Accurate Player
Chua Yong Jian - Best Catcher (August)
Jerrard Leong - Best Catcher (September)
Karishan Somu - Longest Surviving
Kesavan Sa - Best Commentator
Best fanfare and team spirit x 2
Seniors
Juniors
The campus dodgeball league has taught us a lot of experience. Distant enemies became mutual friends, Marshalls that we use to condemn much became much like the marshalls we love ( still love to condemn too ), friendships between among us grew stronger to some point we can look up to each other like brothers and sisters. Those wednesday nights will be never be the same again without having the balls flying around in the center of a shopping mall. (Although it can be, if we filled it up with movies since wednesday nights are movie nights at the curve)
"Winning would have been the cherry on the cake, but the question to ask is, Did you finish it strong?" - Unknown Author-
I totally agree with that statement.Winning the league would have been the best thing but most importantly we all started strong and finished it strong or we probably can say , we finished it... the Hyenas way.
Till then, Cheers!

Training Session Weiiii
Time: 4pm to 6pm
When : Monday ( 7/09/09)
Bring your friends along to have some dodgeball fun!
Plus, all of us will be doing our special routine for the last day of the dodgeball league. Nobody is exempted from this one. =D!
Of dodgeball and dodgettes
Hyena's team is like a complete family unit - though not a good set-up esp in the dodgette department,we're a team. Through victory and losses, come rain come shine, late nights and early mornings, we live the word "team".
Today, as one of the dodgettes, I would like to shout out to my fellow other dodgettes. For one, if it wasn't for these lovely ladies, I would never learn how to dance in the most awkward situations, nor will I understand the joy of sporting events, plus the chance to really cheer with real cheerleaders during the International Friendly Meet against the Hong Kies. I would never be able to release my stress by shouting, I mean cheering for the Hyena's. But most importantly, I won't be part of the dodgette crew.
Linda, Yunsin, Agnes, Dorothy and Vanessa - although our routines might be rusty, our cheers short, our power not significant, our support for the team minor, we'll always be the dodgettes for the 2009 league. And for Wednesday, let's give the Hyena's a good start that no one will ever forget. Come on girls! :)
Afterall, Hyena's HOT-TO-GO! Dodgettes HOT-HOT-HOT TO GO!
p/s: Sorry, pictures will come up soon!

Came, Saw, Conquered
First up for the day was the All Girls match between Malaysia and Hong Kong. It serve as a shocker to the Hongkies ( Women Team) as our girls put up a very strong display of spirit and never-say-die attitude. Albeit losing to them 6-3, our girls showed that they can kick some butt too!. Well done!
Here, Hyenas would like to give credit to SEGI KD Barbarians for going all out proving their integrity and intensity in giving the 1st Hong Kong team a good fight. A very nerve wrecking game as both teams fought tooth and nail, taking the lead one after another.Sadly,Barbarians lost the momentum and eventually fell out. The final verdict of the game was 7-4 ( If I am not mistaken )
Next up was the highly anticipated match between Hyenas against another Hong Kong team ( Hong Kong sent in 3 teams ). This time, the pressure was indeed greater that ever.(Malaysia has already lost 2 matches against Hong Kong).By now, everyone was muted, probably getting ready mentally and physically. When the match took place, the crowd exploded to a whole new level, literally tearing down the MPH.It was that electrifying. During the 1st half, we were leading comfortably 5-1 and eventually took home the winning match with again the same verdict 7-4. Just only this time, it favoured us.
Malaysian Team
Malaysia and Hong Kong
The All Girl Malaysian and Hong Kong Team!
"Victory is often hardwork, but it is also one of the sweetest thing" quoted by Su Juin
Hyenas would like to thank ALL those loyal supporters, fans, family and friends who came to support this international friendly match. Not forgetting every Hyenas team members who sacrifice their Saturday afternoon just to be there. We appreciate it very much!
Hopefully this gives us a good motivation to train harder and play better in the near future.
Cheers!
